Mexican talent Issac has gone from being a rising star to an established favourite in the last few years, having long been featured in the sets of the likes of Sasha and Dixon. We caught up with him as shows of his craft once again on Last Night On Earth…
Hey Isaac! thanks for speaking with us today, how are you?
I’m doing great thanks!
Let’s talk about your latest release, ‘Youth’, on Sasha’s Last Night On Earth. What was the inspiration behind the EP, and how did you approach creating these tracks?
Well, the inspiration in both tracks was similar, I started doing live jams and they turned out to be two tracks with melancholic sounds. The first thing that lead the process on both tracks was the melodies and the drums; then, I built things on top of that. In the end, the idea was to take each track in a different direction until achieving that “It sounds like me”.
Can you tell us a bit about your journey into electronic music? What drew you to the melodic end of House and Techno?
My biggest musical inspiration has always been Sasha. It’s kind of funny because I’ve been a big fan of him since I started listening to electronic music (late 90s), then as a DJ, and after that to produce music… I’m a massive fan. Sasha’s mixes, original productions and remixes were my reference for the electronic music that I liked, and that led me to the emotional/melodic side of House and Techno I guess.
Name three artists you’d love to go B2B with?
Sasha, John Digweed and Anthony Pappa.
What motivates your work as an artist?
I’m motivated by the fact that I can continue making the music I like without trends or labels. I am motivated by this feeling and the need to discover new cool sounds.
What do you think the music industry needs right now?
I know we’re now living in an age of velocity, everything runs too fast. The music industry should pay more attention to quality music creators and not so much attention to Instagram models.
What’s ahead for you in the coming months?
Um… well, I’m always working on new original music. A few parties ahead, New Year’s Eve in NYC, Mexico and then Costa Rica. I also have my second album that will be released next year.
