After a lengthy hiatus spent raising his child and relocating from Iceland to Berlin, Intr0beatz is finally back in the studio, creating the signature sounds that have defined his music. Inspired by his new surroundings, he is once again immersed in the creative process. Armed with a modest setup, consisting of one of his MPCs, a laptop, and a MIDI keyboard, Intr0beatz is dedicating as much time as possible to producing new material.

He is fortunate to share a studio space with close friends Carlo and Black Loops, where he can refine and perfect his tracks. Being based in Berlin – a city brimming with driven, inspiring artists and an abundance of events – has revitalised his approach to music, providing him with the energy and insight necessary to remain productive. This newfound momentum has also enabled him to relaunch his label, Cosmic Angles.

Founded in 2018, Cosmic Angles serves as a platform for releasing his own independent music, tracks he believes deserve a place in the vast musical landscape. Looking ahead, the label may also offer a space for emerging talents who have caught his attention over recent years.

Intr0beatz’s latest release, Liminal Spaces (CA004), is a three-track EP that blends chopped samples, funky stabs, lush chords, and infectious rhythms – a combination designed to warm the heart and get heads nodding.

In addition to forthcoming releases on Cosmic Angles and other respected labels such as Aterral, SlothBoogie, and Stay True Sounds, Intr0beatz is launching a new mix series titled Current Groove. Each month, he will showcase a selection of grooves that inspire him, along with new and forthcoming tracks that are shaping his sound.

We had the opportunity to speak to Intr0beatz below…

Q: Hey Intr0beatz! Tell us a little bit about yourself. How did you get into music, and how long have you been producing music?

My father is a musician, so I have been surrounded by music throughout my life. I began creating music at the age of 17, which means that this year marks 26 years of my musical journey.

Q: What motivates your work as an artist?

To be honest, I find most of my motivation in isolation and harsh weather conditions, which I would describe as quite Icelandic. Living on an island with unpredictable weather often drives me to create, as it’s a way to uplift myself during challenging times.

Q: What’s your sound?

My music has always been very sample-based, especially in my early years as a musician, when I focused on digging through crates to find unique samples and sounds for my productions. I was also heavily inspired by the 90s hip-hop and rave sounds.

Q: Are there any artists who are currently inspiring your work?

There are many influences I could mention, but I’m also driven by the constant stream of subpar music being released daily. It motivates me to create something that I would genuinely enjoy listening to myself.

Q: Walk us through the inspiration behind your latest EP?

These tracks are all old projects that I never finished, and there are countless unfinished ideas. However, since moving to Berlin, I’ve finally found the motivation to revisit and complete them, adding a unique twist to each track. Living in Berlin has deeply inspired me to keep pushing forward and create even more new music.

Q: If you could name one thing, what’s something you’re particularly proud of since starting this journey?

I’m simply grateful that I can still create music and have fun with it, without feeling the pressure to make music for anyone other than myself.

Q:Anything else you’d like to share?

Make sure to follow my label, Cosmic Angles, and check out my new mix series, Current Groove, which drops on the first Monday of each month.
