Interview with Solarc

How did you first get introduced to underground dance music? What is the most challenging part of becoming a full-time producer and touring artist?
I remember when I was child, around 6 years old, spending hours in front of the stereo system recording music from the radio, cutting and editing. It seems like I always had the DJ in me, but it was early 90’s when I got into house music, the real house music.

The music industry nowadays is moving so fast that I think the biggest challenge as a DJ is to stay upfront with “fresh” sounds and music. Also as producer the biggest challenge at least for me is to deal with the inspiration flow, that’s the big deal at the moment to produce I guess, you know it’s not everyday that you are in the mood to make music.

What has been the most exciting turning point of your career so far?
Well I’ve definitely got a couple, I think the first one was back in 2005 when I signed with Deep Dish and Yoshitoshi and also with some other major imprints under my former artist pseudonym “Southmen”. That was at a time when there was small possibilities to get listened to by the main guys, not like nowadays, and for me to get signed by major labels like Yoshitoshi, Azuli or Tribal was like a dream come true.

Then the other turning point for me was couple of years ago when I decided to start this “new” artist profile “Solarc” and my first release signed with Toolroom Records. It was like a sign, Solarc for me was like a re-boot and I’m lucky to be signed with the hottest labels of the moment.

Where is your home base? If someone were visiting there for the first time, what clubs and/or parties and/or restaurants would they want to check out?
Well I’m from Spain but I have grown up in Uruguay. I think one of the best places in the world is Punta del Este, during the summer it’s just magic and we’ve got the best parties with the best crowd with no doubts!! That’s why everyone wants to come over to play there. About restaurants, I must recommend a couple “Namm” in Jose Ignacio and “Torre del Vigia” are two of my favourite ones.

What advice would you give to an aspiring producer?
I think the most important thing is to find his own particular sound. Don’t copy just be different.

What’s on the horizon for you in 2018?
I am working to keep my music signed on big labels, such as Crosstown Rebels, Hot Creations, VIVA Music to name a few, also got my own Sample Sounds Album, and VA mixed Album compilation coming out soon.

Do you have any hobbies outside of music?
Yes I am Footballer and Xbox Player.

What are some touristy things you do while playing in a foreign city?
I love running over the cities when I am touring and also I always try to hang out with local people in order to know more about the cities and culture.

Dream gig…
Well I’ve got a couple, but I never been to Burning Man and it’s probably one of my Dream gigs.

Name one of your go-to tracks…
This is a hard one!! Got so many but I think I’ll chose Danny Tenaglia “World of Plenty”.

Tell us about your mix…
This mix starts with “Kissed By Fire” which is my one of my forthcoming single releases on Crosstown Rebels sub-label Rebellion. I just blend some cool, modern and upfront deep tech sounds too and there are some of my unreleased and exclusive stuff as well. I hope you guys enjoy this mix.

Drink of choice…
Vodka and coconut water all the way! and tomato juice after haha
