French producer Watermät collaborates with Australia’s James Mac for the release of magnetic Afro House dance floor-filler, ‘Make A Livin’.
A smooth and effortless build that exceeds the criteria of musicality, ‘Make A Livin’ is a respectful nod to a recognisable vocal from 1975 classic ‘Heaven and Hell Is On Earth’ by 20th Century Steel Band. Famously used in mutli-genre instances via Jennifer Lopez’s ‘Jenny From The Block’ and Kanye West’s ‘Heaven And Hell’.
Of the release Watermӓt shares, “This track started with a unique lead-sound I stumbled upon on my oldest synth. I built the first version in just a few hours, and James took it further with his club-focused touch.” The French native’s original and innovative sound developing from a simple need to make music that he wanted.
Gaining prominent notoriety in 2014 with his release of ‘Bullit’ via Spinnin’ Records, Watermӓt received the coveted ‘Essential Tune Of The Week’ from Pete Tong on BBC Radio 1. The traction from that record and his ever-building releases taking him to festival stages Tomorrowland and Parookaville plus iconic venues like Ibiza’s Ushuaïa and Brazil’s Laroc and GreenValley.
Raised in Australia but now calling France home, James Mac’s breakthrough year came in 2023 when he dropped ‘The Boy Is Mine’ alongside Vall and Rosalie via Sweat It Out. The track sat at number one on the Beatport chart for months on end amassing 65 million streams on all platforms and counting; also catching the eye of industry tastemakers Keinemusik and Seth Troxler who continue to regularly spin it. His back catalogue effortlessly built on credible labels such as Enzo Siffredi’s Wired and Go Deeva Records.
When it comes to ‘Make A Livin’’ Mac states, “I kinda feel this track was made with no particular genre in mind, it’s purely aimed for dance floors”. With a touring schedule that has seen him take on Asia, India and his native Australia so far in 2025; James Mac sure knows what it takes to build those dance floors. Notably curating his own night at Amnesia nightclub in France via his very own Monday night residency, sharing the stage with such tastemakers as Fisher, Cloonee and DJ Snake.
