Returning to Permission, LA-based DJ/producer and vocalist SOHMI shares her latest single, ‘Honey’ — a dreamy rework that brings an iconic late-90s anthem to the dancefloor for 2025. Written during a trip to a Joshua Tree Airbnb with her close friend Luch three years ago, the single is another showcase of SOHMI’s pop-R&B influenced sound, fusing deep nostalgia with contemporary production. A longtime fan of the Mariah Carey original, the Korean-American talent unveils a swirling flip with seductive vocals and immersive energy, backed by her ‘Metamorphosis Mix’ concept, which offers a darker reinterpretation designed for late-night sessions.
“My first introduction to American pop/R&B was in ’97, when my father gifted me a CD by Mariah Carey – called ‘Butterfly’. The lead single from that album was ‘Honey’, and as a 10-year-old girl growing up in South Korea, I had quite simply never heard anything like it before. That began my lifelong obsession with the genre, and even as an electronic dance music DJ and producer now, I am constantly inspired by the melodies and soulfulness of pop and R&B at their best. My version of ‘Honey’ brings together my past and present, representing the girl I was then and the woman I’ve become today.” – SOHMI.
With ‘Honey’, SOHMI invites listeners even deeper into the world she’s building — one that connects the soulful pop influences of her youth with the late-night pulse of the dancefloor.
