PEIX has been a techno lover for over 20 years and is now an esteemed DJ and live act, having helped drive his local Portuguese scene forward. He brings a raw, intense sound with dense percussive layers and hypotonic drums designed to take dance floors to delirium. He’s released on Hidden Secret Records, tau-ma, and is a regular on Berlin’s ANTIMODUS, who was last here in 2023.
Kicking off his ‘Tenet’ EP is ‘Sator’ with deep, rubbery drums leading into a dank underground cavern alive with microbial synth details and a moody atmosphere that is dark but seductive. ‘Arepo’ is equally economical but impactful, with more tightly wound kicks setting a hypnotic tone as wispy synths dart about the mix. It’s a richly detailed soundtrack to an eerie underworld, then ‘Opera’ gets more muscular with hulking kick drums pounding out a broken beat. Icy hi-hats keep the pressure on, while more swirling pads create an unsettling and paranoid vibe. ‘Rotas’ shuts down with a mix of sci-fi motifs and thudding kick drum loops. A whole ecosystem of synth modulations pans the stereo field with trippy, mind-altering effects.
