The original of ‘Power’ dropped in 2022, relaunching the artist’s One Tribe Records
Hubert Amémé Sodoganji, also known as AMÉMÉ, has been a central figure in the Afro house scene in recent years. Already this year, he has played twice at Coachella and headlined a sold-out Boiler Room show in Lagos, while continuing to draw on his cultural heritage and releasing music on labels like Defected Records, Black Book Records, and Insomniac Records.
The original version of ‘Power’ is a chunky groove with raw, expressive vocals, twisted synths, and organic percussion, making for a dark yet spiritual experience. First to remix it are brothers Sven and Lars, also known as Monkey Safari, underground house stalwarts with numerous credits on labels such as their own Good Vibes From Paradise, as well as Get Physical and many more. Their remix of ‘Power’ is a sultry and seductive percussive workout that lets the brass and vocals shine.
Next up is Mexican Markus Martinez, the winner of AMÉMÉ’s ‘Power’ remix contest, head of NoFace Records, and a tech and Latin house innovator with over two million streams and fans like Paco Osuna and Marco Carola. He says, “Instead of going in a melodic direction, I focused on a clubbier sound—something harder and groovier than the original. A remix that could fit into AMÉMÉ’s sets worldwide. I took inspiration from Tom Enzy and Jesus Fernandez. This remix is perfect for clubs and festivals.” He’s not wrong: his superb version is rhythmically rich and dense with tightly woven kicks, percussion, and whirring synths. The tribal vocal ups the intensity with deep bass powering things to new heights. They take the original into deep and smoky late-night worlds where thudding drums drive expressive synths. The rich carnival atmosphere and live-sounding percussion create an intense atmosphere and elicit dance floor elation.
Last but not least is NenaHalena, a studio magician, percussive master, and blender of Afro-Brazilian rhythms with timeless house and techno. It has come on his label as well as Armada and Stil Vor Talent, while the Brit behind the beats has played everywhere from Ibiza to Berlin. Says NenaHalena, “’Power’ has been one of my absolute favourites from his repertoire. I’ve played it in my shows countless times. The original was such an attention-grabbing track. I really wanted to retain this, but with a fresh take to give it a proper new lease of life – not so easy when you have such a long-standing attachment to a track. But I’m super happy with the way it has turned out. I’m excited again to drop it in the club. I can’t wait for everyone to get their hands on it, too. Thanks AMÉMÉ for letting me loose on your anthem!” His remix is dubby and elastic, with vocals woven into the groove like a hypnotic mantra as horns up the energy levels and signature percussion keeps things organic.
AMÉMÉ’s ‘Power Remixes’ comes on One Tribe on August 29th 2025.
