Massi Rocket is a key driver of the Milanese scene on many fronts. He owns the city’s iconic Rocket Club, which has always been at the forefront with international bookings and platforming local talent. It’s a close community where he hosts his legendary tech house night Motel Calypso, which also gave birth to this label. His sound spans a spectrum from deep and minimal to tech with his latest two tracker, ‘Baila/Everybodies’, coming via his Motel Calypso imprint…

Massimiliano! Thanks for chatting to Music Is 4 Lovers, how’s your summer going so far?

Hi guys, first of all thank you for having me – I’m really happy to be part of this interview and to chat with you! My summer has been going great so far. I’ve been bouncing between Milan and Ibiza, mixing some beach time with a few DJ sets here and there… honestly, I couldn’t ask for more!

Your latest release, ’Baila/Everybodies’, recently arrived via your Motel Calypso Records imprint; what has the reception been like so far?

I’m proud to say the EP has been doing just as well as I’d hoped. Beyond the numbers, I’ve received great feedback from friends, fellow DJs and tech house lovers who are really enjoying both tracks. That kind of support is what makes it all worth it.

In addition to founding your Milan-based label, you also own the city’s iconic Rocket Club; what can you tell us about your journey in Milan’s dance scene?

Well, over the years I’ve witnessed a real transformation in the nightlife scene. The early years of Rocket were more experimental and chaotic, whereas today things are more structured and followed closely by the scene. I’ve seen how generations shift, how trends come and go, and how the energy evolves each season. I’m still fascinated by this world, and excited to see what the future holds for our Rocket family.

Who is your favourite DJ/producer right now and why?

I hope this doesn’t sound too obvious, but right now I’m really vibing with Prospa. Their sound fits perfectly with beach days or long drives – it’s fresh, emotional, and always lifts my mood. I love how they mix intensity with melody.

Could you give us your most played record of 2024?

I’ve been playing “Stephanie” by Cloonee a lot this year. It’s one of those tracks that sticks with you — super catchy, playful, but with a solid groove that makes it perfect for both warm-ups and peak-time sets. Cloonee always brings that cheeky, energetic vibe, and Stephanie is a great example of that.

Summer is certainly in full swing; where can we expect to see you playing during August?

This summer has been full of energy and exciting connections. I played a few gigs in Ibiza, including at Tantra, which was amazing. The next few weeks will be a bit more relaxed, but you’ll definitely catch me at Vesper in Porto Cervo and in Alghero with the Jetlag crew!

What’s next for Motel Calypso Records?

Big things are coming. We’ve got fresh releases lined up, new artists joining the roster, and some exciting collaborations in the pipeline. Motel Calypso Records is still young, but we’re ready to step up our game this autumn and showcase what we’re really about.
