German-born rising star Mario Navajo has a knack for crafting wonderful melodic sounds that fuse the best of house and tech into a fresh new sound. His distinctive signature sound is often laced with his own heartfelt vocal performances, as proven by the solo single ‘Me & You’ on this label and further collaborations with MYR founder Goeran Meyer earlier in the year. We sat down with Mario as he preps for the 35th addition to MYR’s ever evolving catalogue…
Hey Mario! Welcome, how was your holiday season?
Thank you for asking! The quiet days between the holidays and the beginning of the year were very relaxing. We spent some time with family, and it felt like the world around us slowed down a bit. I had the chance to unwind, read some interesting books, and dedicate more time to music in the studio. It was a refreshing way to recharge.
This month, you’re kicking off 2025 with another standout single on Goeran Meyer’s MYR imprint. What can you tell us about ‘Give You’?
Absolutely! ‘Give You’ is one of those tracks that sparked something deep within me. The core idea of the song came together in about 30 minutes. It started with some drums and the melody of the piano. Before long, the lines of ‘Give You’ were just in my head. Of course, I built on the structure with additional layers, but the foundation was solid right from the start. I truly believe ‘Give You’ is an EP that stands out. With remixes by Goeran Meyer and Ivo Deutschmann, we explore different genres of electronic music, making it a diverse and exciting release.
Could you tell us about your songwriting process and what you hope listeners will take away from the upcoming single?
Music for me is never a planned thing; it usually starts as a feeling within me that I express outward through melodies and lyrics. My songs are a reflection of my inner emotions, thoughts, and beliefs. The melody guides me, like waves guiding a surfer or the wind lifting an eagle’s wings. ‘Give You’ captures the deep love for someone, the kind of love where you’d bring the stars down from the sky and lay the world at their feet. It’s about how love can make you do anything. I think everyone knows this feeling. It doesn’t have to be about another person; it can be about the love you feel for your dog, cat, horse, or any other being. ‘Give You’ is a love song, and love is exactly what we need in these dark times on Earth. My hope is that listeners can feel this energy and find a sense of connection, warmth, and hope through the song.
How did your partnership with frequent collaborator Goeran Meyer begin?
Our journey began with a shared love for music, and it’s been an incredible ride ever since. We became best friends, bonded by our mutual passion for creating music. It all started with something simple: Goeran sent me a beat, and I added a hook to it. From that moment, we knew we had something special. Our collaboration blossomed into a beautiful partnership, fueled by creativity and inspiration. Music became more than just a hobby for us, it became a way of life. We went on music-making trips together, exploring new sounds and ideas. Whether we were jamming in the studio or out in nature, sport and music served as our connecting thread, sparking our creativity and strengthening our bond.
With each track we produced, our friendship deepened. We complemented each otherís strengths and continually pushed each other to new heights. Itís been an incredible journey of growth, learning, and shared experiences. Music has always been the driving force that unites us, making our friendship even more profound and meaningful.
What is your favourite record of 2024 and why?
Definitely ‘All I Have’ by RY X. In my eyes, he’s an exceptional artist with a highly distinctive style and an unmistakable sound. I had the honor of meeting RY X in person in Vienna and attending his live show afterward. What he and his team delivered that night was, in my opinion, a musical masterpiece. The album reflects his artistry and vision in such a profound way, and it left a lasting impression on me.
Do you have a New Year’s resolution you can share with us?
My resolution is quite simple: be grateful for what you’ve achieved so far and keep believing in your dreams, yourself, and your abilities. Take the time to figure out what you truly want, what you wish to accomplish, and what brings you joy. Once you do, you’ll see that everything will naturally fall into place for you.
What else can we expect from Mario Navajo in the next few months?
You can definitely expect some releases in the coming months, maybe even an album! Everything is in the works, so I don’t want to commit to a specific date just yet. One of my main goals is to expand my live set and create a completely unique show. I have a lot planned, and I’m excited for what’s to come.
