Hey Skuro, introduce your new alias for us and give it some context?
Skuro is a project that started at the beginning of 2024 with dark and powerful sounds, yet at the same time ‘experimental’ and nostalgic. I had the opportunity to begin my journey with an important release on Errorr label, and since then, I’ve been fortunate to release tracks on Be Free, Moodyverse, and 7 Rituals. Moreover, in less than a year, my music has been supported by major figures in the scene, such as KAS:ST, Agents of Time, 8kays, Adam Sellouk, Innellea, and more.
When did you decide to start and why?
With my old alias (VLLN), I was feeling demotivated recently. I was making music just for the streams and not because I enjoyed it. Last summer was a transitional period; I had time to experiment a lot, and I especially had the chance to dive into a more ‘club’ genre, something more my own, and I’m really happy with this change.”
How hard was it to sound totally different and forget your old style and find a new musical identity?
But I’ve always had a tendency to make dark, especially experimental music, so it wasn’t that difficult to move into another genre. In the last two years, my music was changing; I felt more inspired to create clubbier and darker tracks. So, the transition was quite natural and easy.
What’s the biggest inspiration on the project?
Currently, I’ve never taken anyone as inspiration, and it has always been that way even with my old project. I’ve never taken references, which has always helped me experiment a lot and develop a sound that is uniquely mine.
When will the tunes be out and how did you end up on those labels?
This year, I plan to release 2 or 3 more tracks, though I can’t say anything about the labels yet. I was very fortunate to release with Errorr Label; I contacted them in October 2023 with a package of my demos, and a few days later they got back to me, expressing interest in ‘Save Me.’ I was very impressed, especially because it was my first release and I had just started this project. From there, my project and my music gained credibility, making it easier to get in touch with other labels.
Where and when is your best place to produce? Do you have to be in a certain mood or can you do it whenever?
I’ve tried producing music in many places, including the beach, a bar, one of the most important studios in Italy, and a park, but honestly, I never felt comfortable. I’m more inspired and at ease when I’m in my home studio; here, I always find inspiration and a desire to get to work.
What one skill, bit of gear, knowledge or experience would you add to your arsenal in an ideal world?
Speaking about production, in the near future I’d like to learn how to mix and master like a pro. Currently, I have a trusted sound engineer who has always helped me and taken my music to a higher level. Regarding communication, I think I need to work a lot on my personality. By nature, I am a very introverted person, which is a significant challenge for me. However, in recent years, I’ve been meeting many people, especially from different countries and cultures, and this has been helping me a lot to ‘unlock’ myself.
What can we expect from the project in the future?
Definitely a lot of new music; that will never be missing, haha. At the same time, there will certainly be some gigs around the world. I’m also planning to have my own event where I can express my music 100%. And why not?! An album might become a reality in the future. I have a lot of music that I’ve always loved and that I would like to release, and this would be the right opportunity to do so.
