Q: Hey guys, how has your summer been so far, what’s been good?
Summer has been good to us, everyone is healthy, the weather is nice, festival season is in full effect, we already released a few tracks & have even more coming up.
Q: When and how did you first all meet?
We’ve all been friends for years now and we have always been connected through music and DJing.
Q: How long till you started working togther and why?
Dens (Hi.5): I met Daniel (Bolinger) about 26 years ago while playing a gig and since then we became best friends, regularly deejayed and even started producing together. In 2020 Marc & me founded Hi.5 to have a good time during the pandemic and spend the time without club gigs wisely. It just felt right for us, ‘cause we really enjoyed spending time together and share our love for music. What can I say, nothing changed over all these years unless we are 4 people now.
Dry & Bolinger: We met each other in 2009 while djing on the same party. One day i (Dry) was driving to a gig and Daniel (Bolinger) wrote me a message and ask if i would be interested in producing music together. I was super hyped and a few weeks later we sat down and produced our first Track together.
Q: How does collaborating differ to working alone, does it bring out a different side of your sound?
For us, working as a team of four is not much different from working alone! The only difference is that with four people, everyone can contribute to their strengths and creative ideas, what makes the actual process of working much faster and way more effectively.
Q: What inspired the new one on Run Deep?
This was one of the first ideas we had during the pandemic and it grew over the years. After showing it to Dry & Bolinger to check if they like it, they came up with what the track was missing and together we brought this idea to life and couldn’t be more happier with the final result.
Q: Who did what, do you each have your own roles?
There is no fixed division of roles in our collaboration. Everyone brings their strengths and plays a decisive role in the process.
Q: What’s the aim of your tunes, do you have a certain crowd or party in mind when making them?
No, our aim is to express the certain feeling we have while producing it. We also don’t chase a hype or try to sound like somebody else, we just love and try to represent true house music from the heart. We believe that each track will find it’s spot and if it fits to a beach bar, club floor or festival set will be decided by the individual DJ and listener.
Q: Do you have similar or different musical backgrounds?
We definitely have the same musical background and share the love for the same kind of music, as far as I know!? It may differ in private but everyone has got a guilty pleasure that no one knows about. 😀
Q: What’s next for you? What have you got coming up?
Working together and learning from each other is so inspiring that we already have a a lot of new tracks & remixes coming up + a whole bunch of ideas we soon want to start working on.
Q: Do you DJ together? How does it work if so, one record each back to back? If you don’t, why not, will you?
Yes, we are all DJing together for years now and usually play B2B. For us this is the most fun, it brings way more energy to the set and makes it more fun to watch.
