Hottrax brings together Texas duo Mellizos and rising Spanish producer Alex Atenciano for Get Lit, a groove-driven three-track EP built for dancefloor impact. With early support from major names and a shared passion for rhythm, the trio’s collaboration marks a standout moment for both acts. Today, we speak with them about how the project came together and what it represents for their evolving sound.
Hey guys, thanks for joining us today! How are you doing?
Mellizos & Alex Atenciano: Great! We’re living the dream, we couldn’t be happier!
How did the collaboration between you two come about, and what drew you to work together on Get Lit?
Mellizos: Alex actually found us off of Jamie’s Jones platform “Trackstack” and then our relationship grew from there. We made a lot of tracks together but these were the ones that really stuck.
Alex: Yes, it’s funny that we’re connected, but one day I was listening to promos when suddenly I came across a track they sent me, and I couldn’t wait to send them a message to collaborate together. From then on, we’ve made a lot of music together, and as they say, the tracks selected by Jamie’s team were those three.
Can you talk us through the process of producing the EP, how did you balance each of your creative styles?
Mellizos: It was easy merging our creative styles. We all had the same idea: that we wanted to create songs that would pop off in the club with high energy, but still retain a certain level of creativity that would be remembered.
Alex: As they say, it was super easy to bring our ideas together. We knew we wanted to create songs that would be memorable and that would stir something inside you, that would make you feel and vibrate the moment you heard them.
What was the inspiration behind the title track ‘Get Lit’, and how does it set the tone for the EP?
Mellizos & Alex Atenciano: The title “Get Lit” was very much inspired by the vocal in the second drop of the title track. We think taking ourselves not too seriously is key so we thought “Get Lit” would be a funny, memorable name.
How did each of you contribute to the tracks, and how did your different musical backgrounds influence the final sound?
Mellizos: Alex is very good at choosing the right samples to use to set the vibe and theme for each of the songs.. I used this and completed the ideas to the max; without Alex’s ideas from the start it would’ve been very hard to complete the EP
Alex: What they say about me, I feel the same way about them. I gave them the main structure of how I wanted the song to be, and they managed to choose the perfect elements to improve it and come up with the final version. Without the Mellizos, this would not have been possible. They have incredible potential, and I love that we released this EP together.
Mellizos are known for rolling basslines and tight percussion, and Alex for vibrant, energetic productions. How did you merge these elements to create a unique sound for this release?
Mellizos & Alex Atenciano: As we mentioned before, it was very easy for us to collaborate because the three of us knew we had one main mission: to get people excited and make them feel what we felt when we made this EP. And putting our ideas together and getting everything in sync was really easy for us.
How did working with Jamie Jones and the label shape the direction of this EP?
Mellizos: Working with Jamie and Hottrax sharpened not just the sound but the brand of this EP. They helped us tighten the visuals, the story, and the whole look so the release feels like a complete, intentional package.
Alex Atenciano: Everything has been super easy and they have done a spectacular job with us. We can’t complain at all because you can see how involved they are and how they value the artist. I was also lucky enough to meet Jamie at the Time Warp festival here in Madrid and tell him who I was. He recognized me immediately and told me himself that we had done a great job and that we would soon be signed. Hearing those words from someone like him is literally a dream come true.
Mellizos mentioned that Sabor De Noche marked a breakthrough moment for them. Can you share more about that track’s journey and why it stands out?
Yeah, it was a very special moment when PAWSA played Sabor De Noche live in Ibiza, it showed us what this line of work is all about: the music. Music is timeless and this pivotal pointfor us signified that we had to keep going and never stop. Now here we are on Jamie Jones’ record label because it has always been about the music for us.
Alex described wanting music that moves you “deep in your body and soul.” How important is the physical, emotional response to your productions, especially in a club context?
For me, it’s everything. Music makes us vibrate and teleports us to places we’ve never imagined. It stirs emotions in our bodies and minds that generate something different in each person, and that’s wonderful. That’s what music is for, to make you feel something and, when you hear it, to always take you to that place you’ll remember forever. I value it highly for what it does for me, and I like that people can feel something similar.
Are there plans to work together again, or are there any upcoming projects you’re excited about?
Mellizos & Alex Atenciano: To be honest, we still have three or four songs that haven’t been released anywhere yet, because when we heard the news that they wanted an EP, we worked really hard to cover more options, so yes, you’ll see a lot more of our work in the future. We love simplicity and the great work we do, and we have to keep that up And coming soon, on an individual basis, we have some very exciting projects and news that we are incredibly excited about, which you will discover in due course, hehehe.
What advice would you give to emerging artists trying to find their own sound in the international club landscape?
Mellizos: Staying consistent is probably the most important thing, the moment you stop is the moment you fail. Always keep making tracks even if you don’t have a direct vision. Each track gets better, so that next track could be the one
Alex: Make mistakes. I think that’s a fundamental part of all this, and it’s about working, working, and making 1,000 mistakes until the 1,001st time you find what works for you. Be guided by what moves you inside when you go out to listen to an artist, and surround yourself with a healthy environment that helps you grow and continue developing as an artist. You have to play many styles within a specific genre, such as house, to see what really catches people’s attention and your own, as I said before.
