Louden made his Hottrax debut on 24th October with ‘Gangsta Chucks’ EP – three peak-time weapons built for pure dancefloor impact. Already supported by the likes of Marco Carola, Archie Hamilton and East End Dubs, Louden’s momentum is rising fast. Following the release, we caught up to talk the record, his connection to Jamie Jones/Hottrax, and crafting grooves built to erupt in the club.
Hi Louden, thank you for taking the time to speak with us. How are you today?
Hey guys, thanks for having me! I’m feeling great, especially since it’s ADE time and I’m about to fly out!
Your latest EP, ‘Gangsta Chucks,’ marks your debut on the iconic Hottrax label — a major milestone in your career. How did this collaboration with the label come about?
Yeah, definitely! I’m really excited about it. I’ve received some support from Jamie in the past but, to be fair, I’d never really thought about sending him demos. A crucial role was played by a friend of mine joining the A&R team, who asked me for some music for the labels and that was it!
What drew you into the world of music production and DJing? Was there a particular moment that inspired you?
I can’t mention one single moment but, rather, the whole journey behind it. From when I was a child, I was already in love with dance music, all the way through to my first school parties, when I started experimenting with my first sequencers and DJ decks. Everything happened very gradually.
You recently performed at the legendary After Caposile for East End Dubs’ birthday event, how do you typically prepare for a performance?
I usually don’t prepare that much before performing, apart from making new beats and listening to new music to add to my folders, but I’m always careful about where and when I’m going to play. This one was special as I had to play for a total of 7 hours, split across different times and rooms, and I loved building a journey from the warm-up to the peak times throughout the day.
Every DJ has that one track that the crowd goes crazy for. Which track is that for you?
I don’t have a track that I play every time, but one that I’ve been playing quite often and that always works is an edit of Everything But The Girl – Missing
Your productions balance underground grit with infectious energy. How would you describe your signature sound, and what do you hope listeners take away from it?
Surely groovy and energetic, but I always want my music to have a touch of colour and a raw, old-school vibe by adding synths, textures and vocals. I just hope listeners have fun and enjoy the journey through my musical vision, whether it’s with a pair of headphones or on speakers.
As your sound continues to evolve, how do you envision your music developing over the next few years?
When I’m in the studio I just go with the flow. I always like to add something new to my tracks that can carry into the next ones, but I can’t predict how my sound will evolve in the future. I just focus on the moment and stay true to my influences and tastes.
If you could set the perfect scene for listeners to listen to ‘Gangsta Chucks,’ what would that setting be?
Dancefloor, high-energy moment for sure.
