Newly-minted UK duo Deep Fiktion, comprised of rising artists Eldeanyo and Greg Willowe, might be new kids on the block, but they bear all the hallmarks of seasoned pros. Having launched their joint alias earlier this year, the pair have made a mark on the underground tech house scene in a remarkably short time with outings on Circus, Vivifier, Traded and, of course, Adesso Music. Following up their ‘Dumb’ single, we sat down with Deep Fiktion t0 learn more about their return to Junior Jack’s imprint with more dancefloor heat.
Hi Deep Fiktion, Welcome to Music Is 4 Lovers! How are you both?
We are doing great! Thank you so much for having us.
Your alias, Deep Fiktion, is fresh on the scene, but you’ve already made some serious waves. What was the motivation behind this project, and what sets this project apart from your solo endeavors?
We’ve been good friends since a young age, and always had a massive love for music. We decided to collaborate on some music last year and really enjoyed working together. We already owned an events brand together, and after travelling together for some shows in 2024, we really enjoyed the process of writing music and performing as a duo, so we decided to launch the new Alias as a side project. We quickly got signed to some labels we loved and decided to focus our attention on the Deep Fiktion project full-time. Writing and performing solo can be lonely at times, so it’s great fun to have someone else to work with and travel with and another person to bounce ideas back and forth with, and drive each other on to do well.
Can you both share some insights into your music journey as producers / DJs? How did you first get involved in the scene.
We both trained at the same academy in London, which is how we reconnected after school. We’ve followed a very similar path in terms of learning Djing and then moving into production. In 2022, we launched our own events brand called Elemental Music, which has helped us grow and learn more about the industry as well as connect with DJs, producers and labels. We’ve had some great support from some wonderful labels, particularly Adesso Music, who have helped develop our careers as solo artists and are now offering loads of support under the Deep Fiktion Alias.
Tell us about your latest track, ‘Needy’, on Adesso Music. What inspired the track, and how did you work together in the studio?
Needy is typical of the style of music we both love. Stabby Synths and a driving Bassline alongside a chopped-up vocal. Our studio process has been the same since we started. A lot of the early work on tracks is done individually, we have shared folders where we can work on certain elements of the track and bounce the ideas back and forth. We try to meet up a couple of times a month in the Studio and spend some time together finishing ideas.
Your previous release on the label ‘Dumb’ gained support from some serious industry heavyweights. How does it feel to have your music resonate so strongly, especially so early in your journey as Deep Fiktion?
It’s an incredible feeling to get support from other artists in the industry. It’s really great to see some of our heroes sharing our music across the globe, and this exposure is vital to us reaching new audiences as we grow as artists. It’s also a credit to the work done by the labels, particularly Adesso Music who work so hard to make sure our music gets heard by the right people.
Tech House is such a dynamic genre right now, with so many subgenres emerging. How would you describe Deep Fiktion’s sound, and what do you think sets you apart from others in the scene?
It’s great to see so many variations of house music doing great things worldwide. We really feel our music is starting to find a “sound” now, and over the next couple of years, we hope this will be more present in our catalogue of releases. We focus a lot on bassline-driven tracks, trying to keep things simple and bring many techno influences into our sound. We enjoy bringing chopped-up vocal elements into our music to help enhance the groove and also bringing vocals from other genres to contrast our style.
You’ve both played iconic UK venues like Ministry of Sound and Café Mambo Festival and now you’ve got your first Ibiza residency lined up. How does it feel to be stepping onto that international stage?
We are always super grateful to have the opportunity to perform both at home and internationally. Getting a reaction to our music after so much hard work is the best feeling in the world and we hope to continue doing so long into the future.
2024 is shaping up to be massive for you both. Can you give us a sneak peek of what’s to come from Deep Fiktion in the next few months?
2024 has been incredible so far. Festival season was fantastic, and we had the pleasure of playing some amazing events. We are going to be announcing our first headline winter tour in the next couple of weeks, launching our own record label, and have a busy release schedule to take us into 2025. It’s a very exciting time.
