Both hailing from the South of Italy, Mata Jones and Alfrenk are frequent collaborators with an extensive discography on labels such as Solardo’s Sola, Jamie Jones’ Paradise, and Kaluki Musik, as well as established artists in their own right, each with a notable list of supporters from Roger Sanchez to Stefano Noferini. The pair take a seat with us and discuss their latest release ‘From The South’ on Adesso Music, production techniques and future projects.

Hi Mata Jones & Alfrenk! Welcome to Music Is 4 Lovers. How are things with you both?

Thank you very much for the opportunity. First of all, we want to thank Music is 4 Lover for the opportunity. It is an honour for us to chat with you; our working relationship is going swimmingly. We started working together a while ago, merging our style, ideas and knowledge. Now, we travel on the same frequencies, and we always agree.

You both hail from the South of Italy. What was the music scene like growing up there?

We were both born in southern Italy from Campania, we grew up on bread and house music, as teenagers we had the same experiences, even if we didn’t know each other…. luckily for us the best DJs when we were clubbers passed through our areasVega, Morales, Sanchez, Morillo and many other top DJs

Congrats on your latest collaboration, ‘From The South’, on Adesso Music. Can you tell us about the inspiration behind the track?

Thank you very much; we also liked it immediately, even in the construction phase; let’s say that everything revolves around a very old school, hypnotic bass, which fits perfectly into the mood we want to propose in this period; sometimes we feel like saying that we are becoming much more mature. The groove is our typical very tech groove, which always winks at house music. Finally, we worked on 2 vocal vocal sample that intertwine in the groove and a more sung part that we used in the breaks.

You’ve released on other highly respected labels like Sola, Paradise, and Kaluki Musik. What is your approach when reaching out to labels and how do you feel Adesso Music fits with your evolving sound?

Yes, we have made good Labels; we have always sent our Music to labels that reflected our sound and never made Music for labels; our motto has always been: we do what we like, and then we’ll see which label to send the eventual demo to. Now, Music was a label we aimed at last year because it reflected a lot in our sound. I must say that with all the Adesso Music staff, we immediately felt like family, we noticed that they did a lot for our release, you know sometimes labels only think about releasing Music and don’t believe much in the product they decide to sign, with Adesso Music it was really nice, from the first listen we had an appreciation that we have seen with few labels…. It was really a great release, both for the Music and for how the label worked.

What were some of your highlight moments from this summer?

This summer, we worked a lot on a new sound with more melodies and new disco sounds with a search for sounds that start from House Music and reach Nu disco.

Looking ahead, what’s next for Mata Jones and Alfrenk? Can fans expect any more collaborations, or are there any exciting solo projects in the pipeline that you can share with us?

There are new projects in the pipeline, projects even with vocals recorded in the studio; as I said before, we are becoming more mature, and our sound will have to get closer to the big producers. Maybe with time, a mini album will also come out. We want to improve more and more.
