As Boogeyman opens its 2026 catalogue, Aamir Zee steps forward with ‘On Time’, marking his solo debut on the the label. Already known as one half of Late Delivery, this release sees him carving out his own identity within the wider Cuttin’ Headz family under Jesse Calosso’s vision. With two cuts that balance groove and atmosphere, the EP signals a confident new chapter. We catch up with Aamir Zee to talk about stepping out solo, his creative process, and what lies ahead.
You’ve released on Boogeyman before as one half of Late Delivery. What pushed you to step out solo for ‘On Time’?
Releasing as part of Late Delivery was an important chapter for me creatively, but stepping out solo felt like a natural evolution. I wanted the freedom to fully explore my own sound, instincts, and workflow without compromise. On Time represents that next step and a clearer expression of who I am as an individual artist.
Boogeyman sits under the Cuttin’ Headz umbrella and carries a strong groove-led identity. How did you approach making something that fits that world while still sounding like you?
I focused heavily on the groove and flow of the track while keeping my own musical personality at the core. Even though Boogeyman sits under the Cuttin’ Headz umbrella, Jesse Calosso really leads the creative direction and defines what fits within the label’s sound palette. Starting with the kick and bassline allowed me to lock in on that Boogeyman energy, while still giving myself the space to explore and experiment. The goal was to respect the label’s sound while letting my own creative instincts lead the way.
The title track leans into tight percussion and a hypnotic vocal. Where did that idea start, in the drums or in the hook?
It started with the groove, specifically building a tight drum foundation that could carry energy without over producing. Once that pocket felt right, the vocal naturally became the centerpiece that glued everything together. From there, it was all about adding subtle textures and accouterments.
‘Roses’ takes a deeper and more atmospheric route. Was that contrast intentional from the start, or did the EP evolve naturally in the studio?
That contrast came together organically during the production process. I wanted the EP to feel dynamic and emotional rather than one-dimensional, and ‘Roses’ allowed me to explore a
deeper, more introspective side. It ended up becoming the perfect counterbalance to the driving energy of ‘On Time’.
As part of LA’s house scene and now building your solo profile, what do you want people to understand about Aamir Zee in this next chapter?
I feel incredibly grateful to have been part of the LA house scene for a few years and to have met so many talented and inspiring people during that chapter. Now that I’m back home in Washington, DC, my focus has shifted toward building something deeply personal and intentional. I want people to hear authenticity, purpose, and consistency in everything I release, as I continue to grow and refine my sound. Ultimately, my goal is to create music that not only moves dance floors but also brings people together…we could all use a little more love in this world.
