Born from the vision of globally touring DJ/producer Nitefreak and British Army veteran–turned–Afrohouse devotee Terrie, Afroholic Records is carving its place in the rapidly expanding Afro House movement. Guided by a commitment to raw, deep, and authentic sound, the label aims to spotlight fresh talent, foster cross-cultural collaboration, and push the genre into new territory. In this interview, the founders share the mission, challenges, and global ambitions driving Afroholic’s rise.

What inspired the start of Afroholic Records, and what does the name represent to you?

The inspiration to start Afroholic came from Nitefreak, a globally touring DJ/producer, and Terrie, a British Army veteran with a long-time passion for Afrohouse. Both were actively involved in growing the Afrohouse scene, and the 2 friends decided to combine forces. The name Afroholic represents being truly “addicted to house music,” which is also the label’s motto.

How would you describe the mission and sonic identity of Afroholic Records?

The mission of Afroholic is to deliver raw, simple, and authentic Afrohouse music. Our sonic identity is about having no limits to creativity while staying true to the Afrohouse roots.

Afroholic Records is still in its early stages. What kind of artists and sounds are you hoping to showcase through the label?

We’re looking for artists with passion and drive — those who have that fire in them. In terms of sound, we encourage full creativity while keeping the core elements of Afrohouse: raw, deep, and authentic.

Many artists use labels as platforms for community. How do you envision Afroholic fostering collaboration within the Afro House scene?

By working with artists from different cultures and backgrounds, we create opportunities for collaboration and sharing new ideas across borders.

What are some challenges you’ve faced stepping into the label-owner?

It’s a daily learning process. The biggest challenge is understanding the business side of running a label — especially sync and publishing, which is a whole new world on its own. But we’re learning and adapting with each step.

With Afro House gaining global recognition, how do you see Afroholic contributing to that movement’s growth and evolution?

We’re contributing by showcasing Zimbabwean talent and fresh Afrohouse sounds. Our artists, like Murphy Cubic and MJ Sings, are already collaborating with producers worldwide, bringing a different energy and perspective to the scene.

Are there any upcoming releases or projects on Afroholic Records that you’re especially excited about?

We’re excited about every release we put out because each one breaks away from trends and represents something unique within Afrohouse.

How do you balance the business side of running a label with your creative process as a producer and DJ?

That’s where teamwork comes in. Nitefreak focuses mainly on the creative side, while Terrie handles the business and operations. Teamwork makes the dream work.

You’ve worked with incredible artists and labels across the world. How have those experiences influenced how you’re shaping Afroholic Records?

Those experiences taught us the importance of quality, consistency, and professionalism — values we’re building into Afroholic from day one.

Looking ahead, where do you want Afroholic Records to be in the next five years, both musically and culturally?

In five years, we aim for Afroholic to be a major force in the Afrohouse scene — developing artists, building the sound across Africa, and connecting it globally. We want Afroholic to be a hub for authentic Afrohouse talent and creativity.
