Emerging artist Adaru recently stepped into the spotlight with his debut EP ‘Cruisers’, out now on OMRI.’s rising imprint, Collecting Dots Records. Marking the label’s sixth release, the three-tracker continues to build on its mission of spotlighting fresh, floor-focused music, blending playful groove with tightly crafted production.
The EP delivers a snapshot of his sound, opening with the vibrant title track ‘Cruisers’, a rolling house cut made for sun-soaked sessions and late-night sets. ‘Mess’ follows with hazier textures and intricate percussion, while ‘Can’t Stop’ brings things to a head with high-octane energy and earworm vocal chops.
With the EP now out in the world, we caught up with the newcomer to discuss translating his DJ energy into the studio, the story behind his debut release, and how a chance encounter with OMRI led to this opportunity…
‘Cruisers’ is your first official studio release. How did you approach translating the energy from your DJ sets into a recorded format?
When I DJ, it’s all about the groove. The flow. Locking people in and taking them somewhere without forcing it. The same goes for the studio; different tools, same mindset. Each track needs to hold its own weight, but still move right in a set, especially mine.
Each track on the EP brings a different vibe. Which one pushed you the most creatively, and why?
‘Cruisers’ pushed me the hardest. It was one of the first tracks I ever finished, but it took time to get there. The first version missed the mark. I kept chasing the feeling—rebuilt it six times over a few months while I was still figuring out what my sound even was. The final version? A different beast. And that process, that back and forth, is where I really leveled up as a producer. The whole EP reflects that journey, finding the edges of my sound. Locking in on who I am as an artist.
How did linking up with OMRI. and Collecting Dots come about, and what drew you to the label’s vision?
It took a minute for things to line up with OMRI. When I decided to take music seriously, I enrolled in a music school. One day, he came in, broke down his process, shared his story, and mentioned he was planning to start a label called Collecting Dots. Right then, I set a goal: release on that label. Work with him. Simple. A few months later, I sent him some tracks. He vibed with it. We started talking. Now, two years later, we’re here.
