MI4L – What was your approach to crafting the energy of the “Bad Boy” EP? Did you have a specific audience or setting in mind when shaping the overall sound?
Eddy P. – I wanted to get in studio and make something heavy for the clubs and something for the ladies to get they’re night going.
MI4L – The EP’s sound feels very raw and authentic. How do you channel your personal experiences into your production?
Eddy P. – Well I take my all shows on tour experiences into the studio, I think about all the memorable times at each show and bring out the feeling into the music, I absolutely love energy being pumped into my music.
MI4L – You’ve mentioned before that you’re always evolving. How does the “Bad Boy” EP reflect your current evolution as an artist?
Eddy P. – It really changes the tone in where I am at in the moment in my music career it’s something Tough, bold, making a statement in the music.
MI4L – SoundWav Records has built a reputation for pushing boundaries. How does this EP fit into your label’s vision for the future of underground music?
Eddy P. – It holds a heavy club sound and that’s something we work hard to put out as a label is banging records. This EP definitely holds that up.
MI4L – What were some of the production challenges you faced when making this EP, and how did you overcome them?
Eddy P. – I think just time, finding the correct elements to fit it all together.
MI4L – “Bad Boy” has a sense of attitude and defiance in its production. How much do you think your own personality shapes the music you create?
Eddy P. – My personality is definitely melded in together with a lot of my music I creat but this one was just a sense of finding my carisma in the sound and making it really heavy of the EP.
MI4L – Your tracks often have a distinct balance of groove and aggression. How do you maintain that tension in your productions without leaning too far in either direction?
Eddy P. – I really think it’s the time you take when listening the record there is a moment when in studio hearing it over and over again you start to feel the drag going on in the record so I definitely think about how the record would sound when being played live. How much of the beat and bass will I continue running when will the break start etc.
MI4L – When working with vocal samples, like the ones used in this EP, how do you decide what works and what doesn’t?
Eddy P. – I really go with the work flow, I’ll sit back and listen to the record over and over until something fits and I am satisfied. It also has to do with the vibe of the record where that vibe is going.
MI4L – What impact do you hope this release will have on the dance floor? Is there a specific reaction you’re aiming for when DJs spin these tracks?
Eddy P. – I really just want to see people dancing instead and enjoying themselves
MI4L – As a producer and DJ, do you feel pressure to balance creativity with trends in the industry, or do you follow your instincts regardless of what’s popular?
Eddy P. – I really follow my own wav.. haha but yeah I just do what I like and what influences my sound. The trends in the industry will always be a thing but it all comes to past at a certain point but originality always goes a long way in my book.
MI4L – When looking at your catalog, where do you think “Bad Boy” sits in relation to your previous releases? Does it feel like a continuation or a departure?
Eddy P. – I think the “Bad Boy” EP is departure and the reason behind that is, I always believe every record I make has to hit harder than the last.
MI4L – You’re known for curating unique soundscapes. How do you see your role as a DJ evolving alongside your production work, especially with the release of this EP?
Eddy P. – This EP has thought me one thing and that is making sure to always keep the audience on they’re toes, have the records build that peak moment.
MI4L – You’ve been releasing music for a while now. How do you keep yourself motivated and creatively inspired, especially when running your own label?
Eddy P. – Traveling, seeing friends play at festivals and also just simply spending time to listen to Jazz and get new drum ideas.
MI4L – What role does collaboration play in your music-making process? Can we expect more collaborative efforts on future SoundWav Records releases?
Eddy P. – Collaboration is definitely an art, a fusion is what we can call it, making a record and collaborating with different sounds and partners can be fun. It brings out a challenge to the table. You absolutely believe I’ll be bringing some more heat to the label!
