[Release] For some time now the combined forces of Mark Caramelli and Paul Hargreaves have been causing quite a stir under their guise, Death on the Balcony. Their style fuses a range of influences from disco and deep house through to house and deep techno depending on the time, space, and environment. Expect some surprises from the duo’s record bag to pack endless warmth and soul on their journey with you. Their latest comes to us on the ever amazing and always impressive San Francisco based label Smoke N’ Mirrors.

In “The Colour That You Bring to Me,” Death on the Balcony layers space-y synths and vocoder vocals on top of a funky bassline for a truly cosmic disco experience. “Shade I Bring to You”, my personal favorite from the release, is a masterfully minimal jam with a smooth, sinister bassline. Pressurized trills billow out, filling the track with a dark, shimmering ambience.

Nick Monaco (Soul Clap, dirtybird)’s delightful remix of “The Colour That You Bring to Me” adds a colorful acid vibe, straight out of 1993, complete with rollin’ Rolands and smooth-crooning vocals. Dig way deeper underground and you’ll come across Edit Murphy (Om Records)’s dubbed out version of “Shade I Bring To You.” The long, luxurious bass creates a slow build while the percussive hooks urge you the dance floor.

Smoke N’ Mirrors consistently throws out the best releases that find that delicate balance between deep and disco, and this latest is no exception. Impressive release from Death on the Balcony so true to their sound and their style. Looking forward to what these two have for us coming up!
